05w5011 Geometric and Asymptotic Methods in Group TheoryArriving Saturday, June 11 and departing Thursday, June 16, 2005Organizers: Rostislav Grigorchuk (Texas A&M University), Alexander Olshanskiy (Vanderbilt University), Akbar Rhemtulla (University of Alberta), Mark Sapir (Vanderbilt University), Daniel Wise (McGill University). ObjectivesObjective: We propose to gather leading specialists in group theory (asymptotic invariants, algorithmic problems), geometric topology ($CAT(gamma)$ spaces, cubical complexes, etc.), statistical group theory (random walks, Poisson boundaries, etc), as well as graduate students in order to discuss recent trends and connections in these areas of mathematics. |
