Objectives


During the academic year 2005-2006, the Centre de Recherche Mathématiques in Montreal will hold a program in Analyse en théorie des nombres. In Spring, 2006, the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute will hold a program on Rational and Integral Points on Higher-Dimensional Varieties. There is much overlap between these two programs, in particular in the methodology for solving diophantine equations. The central purpose of this workshop is to bring these two groups together to exchange ideas and discuss the advancements achieved during the programs at the respective institutions. We anticipate that by the time of this workshop, progress already observed in finiteness theorems for solutions of certain systems of diophantine equations in many variables, and techniques for locating those solutions will have developed to such a point as to make this workshop the capstone for both programs.
