Description

The workshop to take place at BIRS, March 30-April 4, 2008, will congregate some of the world most prominent mathematics researchers in the areas of Partial differential Equations (PDEs). The meeting will offer the venue for scientific exchange between professionals from different areas of expertise. This exchange will significantly promote each particular specialty by incorporating the enriching experiences, approaches and ideas from other areas.

Elliptic and parabolic PDEs are subject of considerable pure and numerical scientific research. They are of a paramount importance in pure and applied sciences and have vastly contributed to our present day understanding of such basic phenomena as heat transfer, market pricing, optimal transport problems, electrodynamics, and celestial movements, among many others.

The Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) is a collaborative Canada-US-Mexico venture that provides an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station is located at The Banff Centre in Alberta and is supported by Canada\'s Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the US National Science Foundation (NSF), Alberta\'s Advanced Education and Technology, and Mexico\'s Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT).
