09w5090 Nonlinear Conservation Laws and Related ProblemsArriving Sunday, October 4 and departing Friday, October 9, 2009Organizers: Gui-Qiang Chen (Northwestern University), Walter Craig (McMaster University), Constantine Dafermos (Brown University), Konstantina Trivisa (University of Maryland). Press Release: Nonlinear Conservation Laws and Related Problems ObjectivesProposal for a 5-day workshop on hyperbolic conservation laws and related models at the Banff International Research Station, focusing on mathematical problems for compressible flows in fluid dynamics, combustion, oceanography, astrophysics, particle physics and other areas. The models are formulated by the Euler and Navier-Stokes equations for compressible fluids, MHD, Euler-Poisson, and others. The goal of the workshop is to bring together analytical and numerical experts of the applied mathematics community to take part in the examination of emerging problems, exchanging ideas in a structured and focused environment. Furthermore, one of the reasons to convene the workshop is to bring into focus other problems that are able to be addressed by the methods developed by the conservation laws community. Holding the workshop at BIRS is especially valuable for attracting the broadest possible international audience. |
