Model reduction in continuum thermodynamics: Modeling, analysis and computation

The Banff International Research Station will host the "Model reduction in continuum thermodynamics: Modeling, analysis and computation" workshop from September 16th to September 21st, 2012.


Model reduction represents an important topics attracting growing attention of both
mathematical community and specialists interested in applications. The workshop focuses on the following leading
topics: Mathematical theory of compressible and incompressible viscous fluids, singular limits with applications in
fluid mechanics, scale analysis and numerical implementations, mathematical modelling of complete fluid systems.
Each topic is introduced to participants by means of a key note lecture delivered by a leading expert in the field
followed by other participants contributions, active exchange ideas and informal discussion. The main idea of the
meeting is to bring together experts that would probably never meet at other occasion given the diversity of their
respective fields.

The Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) is a collaborative Canada-US-Mexico venture that provides an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station is located at The Banff Centre in Alberta and is supported by Canada's Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), Alberta's Advanced Education and Technology, and Mexico's Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT).
