Press Release:

Random Dynamical Systems and Multiplicative Ergodic Theorems

The Banff International Research Station will host the "Random Dynamical Systems and Multiplicative Ergodic Theorems" workshop from January 18th to January 23rd, 2015.

Dynamical systems is the study of systems that evolve over time. These can be very concrete (the motion of a pendulum) or very abstract. If they are subject to external influences, then they’re called Random Dynamical Systems. The multiplicative ergodic theorem is a powerful tool, dating back to the 1960’s, that can be used to study Random Dynamical Systems.

This workshop will bring together specialists from around the world in Random Dynamical Systems, Multiplicative Ergodic Theorems and those who apply these tools to concrete physical systems, such as oceans, the atmosphere etc. The goal is to foster expanded research collaborations between the groups.

The Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) is a collaborative Canada-US-Mexico venture that provides an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station is located at The Banff Centre in Alberta and is supported by Canada's Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), Alberta's Advanced Education and Technology, and Mexico's Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT).
