Press Release:

2016 Summer IMO Training Camp

The Banff International Research Station will host the "2016 Summer IMO Training Camp" workshop in Banff from STARTDATE to ENDDATE.

The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is the "world championships" among high school math contests. It is held every year somewhere in the world, with Canada and about 100 other countries each sending up to six high school students to compete. The contest lasts two days, and on each day the students are given three very tough math problems to solve within 4 1/2 hours.
Each year just before the IMO, the Canadian Mathematical Society holds a Training Camp, usually at BIRS, attended by the Canadian students selected for our IMO Team, plus their adult leaders and trainers. This year the Canadian and Mexican Mexican IMO Teams will combine forces with a joint Summer Training Camp at BIRS. Here both IMO Teams will receive intensive training in the form of practice contests and lectures.

The Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) is a collaborative Canada-US-Mexico venture that provides an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station is located at The Banff Centre in Alberta and is supported by Canada's Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), Alberta's Advanced Education and Technology, and Mexico's Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT).
