Press Release:

Complex Analysis and Complex Geometry

The Banff International Research Station will host the "Complex Analysis and Complex Geometry" workshop from May 1st to May 6th, 2016.

Complex analysis and complex geometry is a vibrant area of modern mathematics with connections to many other fields. It investigates spaces ranging from the 2-dimensional plane to abstract spaces that can have infinitely many dimensions. These spaces are based on the complex number system, an extension of everyday numbers in which the number $-1$ is allowed to have a square root. Over 40 international experts have gathered in Banff to report on and discuss recent progress and open problems in the area and thus foster interaction and collaboration between researchers in different subfields.

The Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) is a collaborative Canada-US-Mexico venture that provides an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station is located at The Banff Centre in Alberta and is supported by Canada's Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), Alberta's Advanced Education and Technology, and Mexico's Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT)..
