The Banff International Research Station (BIRS) is proud to announce an exciting new partnership with the Institute of Mathematics at the University of Granada (IMAG) in Spain. Recently awarded a prestigious "Maria de Maeztu Seal of Excellence" grant of $1.8M euros by the Spanish Research Agency (AEI) and supported by the Andalusian government, IMAG will join CMO-Oaxaca in Mexico, IASM-Hangzhou in China, and BIRS-UBCO in Canada as a BIRS-affiliate centre.

IMAG will be the first European centre for BIRS, offering its acclaimed scientific programming within easy access of the European mathematical community, against the rich natural and cultural backdrop of stunning Andalusia. IMAG director Dr. Joaquin Perez said, "The mathematical community at IMAG is delighted with this project of collaboration with BIRS. We are sure this collaboration will be an excellent instrument for the quantitative and qualitative growth of mathematical research at IMAG and throughout Andalusia. In today's global world, the direct exchange of information between researchers is very necessary for the advancement of scientific knowledge, and this is a great way to promote it".

The full IMAG opportunities will be made available through the BIRS call for proposals that will be issued in June 2022 for the 2024 program. However, we are currently planning a BIRS-IMAG pilot program to be hosted in Granada as early as 2023, and the BIRS Scientific Board will consider a limited number of workshops proposals for the 2023 cycle. Please write to the BIRS Scientific Director ([email protected]) for further information, if you are interested in developing such a workshop.
