Research in photonics: modeling, analysis, and optimization (10rit160)

Arriving Sunday, September 12 and departing Sunday September 19, 2010

Organizers

David Dobson (University of Utah)
Fadil Santosa (University of Minnesota)
Stephen Shipman (Louisiana State University)
Michael Weinstein (Columbia University)

Objectives

This research in team brings together four active researchers in the field of photonics. Two of us, Dobson and Santosa, have previously collaborated. All 4 are familiar with each other's work. Each come with slightly different expertise to the table. Our goals are

1. To learn about common problems of interest

2. To start collaborating on specific problems

3. To develop a multi-year research agenda

4. To plan a joint proposal

In 3, we have a list of problems:

o Understanding the convergence of resonances to eigenvalues

o Analysis of specific devices

o Computational and approximation methods for device modeling

o Optimal design of optical resonators

o Optimal design of optical systems

We each have real interest in collaborating. This research in team will provide us with an opportunity to work together undisturbed.
