Description

The Banff International Research Station will host the "Statistical Methods for Computational Advertising" workshop in Banff from April 19 to April 24, 2020.

Computational advertising is a multi-billion dollar business, but it has received little attention from academic statisticians. Nonetheless, this collection of pricing models, keyword auctions, A/B tests, and recommender systems depends heavily upon statistical methodology in nearly every aspect of its performance. This program will bring together scientists from the information technology companies and university] researcher to collaborate on new methods to enable consumers to only see ads for things they actually want to buy, and to enable manufacturers to save advertising budget by accurately targeting interested customers.

The Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) is a collaborative Canada-US-Mexico venture that provides an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station is located at The Banff Centre in Alberta and is supported by Canada's Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), Alberta's Advanced Education and Technology, and Mexico's Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT).
