Objectives
It is a proposal for a 5-day workshop on hyperbolic conservation laws and related problems at the Banff International Research Station, focusing on mathematical problems for compressible flows in fluid dynamics, combustion, oceanography, astrophysics, particle physics, and other areas. The models are formulated by the equations of Euler and Navier-Stokes for compressible fluids, MHD, Euler-Poisson, and other.
The aim of the workshop is to bring together analytical and numerical experts of the applied mathematics community in order to take part in the examination of emerging problems, exchanging ideas in a structured and focused environment. We also aim to include in the group of participants a significant number of young researchers and graduate students in an effort to encourage them to study applied mathematics and to choose it as a career. Holding the workshop at BIRS would be especially conductive to attracting the broadest possible international audience.
