PHAC-MITACS Joint Symposium on Modeling Sexually Transmitted and Blood-Borne Infections (07w2156)

Arriving in Banff, Alberta Friday, August 10 and departing Sunday August 12, 2007

David Fisman (Hospital for Sick Children and Ontario Public Health Laboratories)

Tom Wong (Public Health Agency of Canada)

Jianhong Wu (York Institute for Health Research, York University)

The workshop will be held shortly after the International STD Research Mtg in Seattle (July 29-Aug 1) to ensure maximal impact of our workshop on the Canadian policy towards the study of sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections.

One of the objectives of this workshop is to form a national focus group on modeling sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections that is capable of making scientific recommendations to governments at provincial and national levels in the subject area.

An immediate goal of this focus group is to develop research proposals for funding support from Public Health Agency of Canada and make recommendation to funding agencies about the role of mathematical modeling for the management of sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections.
